Instructions | Swab the surface of the source to be tested using a sterile polyester-tipped swab. Do NOT use cotton-tipped swabs as they inhibit Legionella growth. To prevent drying of the swab, approximately 5 mL of source water must be added to the sterile conical tube; specimens submitted without source water will be rejected. Place the sterile swab into the conical tube and bend the swab shaft in order to break the swab. The entire swab should be approximately 1 inch below the top of the conical tube to avoid leakage in transit.
Secure the lid, and label the conical tube with the barcoded label to identify the source. Specimen should be collected and shipped overnight in a cooler with an ice pack Monday-Friday only. |
