MPO |
| Intended Use |
Used for the quantitative determination of myeloperoxidase. |
| Clinical Significance |
Myeloperoxidase is a hemoprotein present in leukocytes of blood circulation that plays an important role in the innate host-defense mechanism. Studies report that elevated levels of MPO are a sensitive indicator of inflammatory disorders and may indicate the presence of unstable plaque or buildup in the arterial wall and an increased risk of plaque rupture. In patients with high levels of MPO, careful evaluation of CVD risk should be considered by a healthcare professional. |
